Rich's Alien DNA 'Patch'
Here's a section of normal human DNA:
Now the thing you need to know about DNA is that Thymine always joins to Adenine and Cytosine always joins to Guanine. It's quite impossible for anything else to occur in DNA originating on Earth. You simply cannot have cytosine joining to adenine in Earthly DNA.
But here's Rich's DNA showing the same segment:
As you can see Cytosine is joined to Adenine by using a patch of DNA. The only way that this could happen is if the DNA did not originate from Earth! Rich may look human but he's partly alien.
Of course there is no way for this DNA strand to be replicated by the normal process of splitting. Instead Rich has a new mitochondrea with the sole function of finding this segment of DNA and inserting the patch.
What does this patch do? It introduces altruism into an individual who would otherwise be completely selfish and ruthless. They are nice because they like being nice rather than them being nice because it benefits them in some way.
